The only credential of its kind, the Certified Relocation Professional® (CRP) designation offers global mobility industry professionals an opportunity to demonstrate their skill and understanding of managing employee mobility in the United States.
There are currently over 2,400 professionals who have earned the distinction of the CRP designation. The CRP designation is a leading program for those who want to elevate their mobility career in the U.S.
What Does a CRP Designation Entail?
There are two possible designations that can be awarded when a candidate enrolls in the CRP program: the first is the Certified Relocation Professional, and the second is the Senior Certified Relocation Professional.
For a candidate to earn the CRP designation, they must sit for the examination. The examination consists of 125 multiple-choice questions in the three hours given. The questions are written by a Worldwide ERC® CRP Certification Review Board and cover different disciplines within the corporate relocation and mobility industry. The exam is offered either at a local testing center or by live, online proctoring. Instructions are sent to registrants around three to four weeks prior to the start of the examination window.
While Worldwide ERC does not offer nor require study groups, some candidates feel more comfortable studying collaboratively, and Worldwide ERC will provide information relating to independently formed study groups as they become available.
To obtain the senior designation, candidates are required to earn Worldwide ERC’s Distinguished Service Award through leadership contribution to Worldwide ERC by speaking at a Worldwide ERC program, writing Mobility magazine articles, serving on standing committees, etc.
What Are the Requirements for Registering for the CRP Exam?
To qualify for the CRP program, candidates have two options. Candidates must first be a current member of Worldwide ERC and have held the membership for at least 12 months during the 18th-month period prior to the program’s exam and, additionally, have at least one year of corporate relocation-related experience.
The second option is that a current CRP or SCRP designee will attest to the candidate’s one year of corporate relocation-related experience. Both the attesting designee and the CRP candidate must be Worldwide ERC® members both when the candidate submits their CRP application and through the examination date.
What Are the Benefits of a CRP Designation?
“I sat for the CRP test at a time in my career when I was transitioning from an RMC to a corporate mobility role. Studying for the CRP, I found the real estate laws and case studies were particularly helpful, as I’d be supporting a large home sale program in my new role. Overall, both of the [CRP and GMS] certifications helped catapult my mobility career, and I couldn’t recommend them enough to my fellow industry colleagues," says Ray Kirby, CRP, GMS-T, senior manager of global mobility at Qualcomm.
The CRP designation is highly regarded among mobility professionals and, when achieved, denotes a high level of understanding and knowledge of employee mobility in the U.S. The CRP designation is particularly helpful for individuals in real estate brokerage, real estate appraising, working as a relocation service provider, or working within an organization to handle developing and/or administering the organization’s relocation policy for employees.
For those individuals, the CRP designation can help enhance their career via upskilling and help them transition up to the management level or more senior roles in the relocation field.
